Getting Started
How do I know if my tools are worth selling?
Just send me a few quick photos, neat or messy. I’ll review them and let you know what’s worth listing and what’s better to donate or recycle. Even a wide shot of your garage gets the conversation started.
Do I need to clean or sort anything first?
Nope. I handle the cleaning, sorting, and testing so you don’t have to. Just leave things as they are — I’ve seen it all.
What kinds of tools do you take?
I focus on pro-grade brands like DeWalt, Milwaukee, Klein, Makita, and Snap-on. I also take shop gear, mobility aids, camera equipment, restaurant tools, and more. If it’s built to last, I’ll consider it.
How do I send photos for an estimate?
Text or email your photos — or use the form on our Estimate page. No fancy angles or lighting needed. I’ll give you a free, no-pressure estimate right away.

Do you take small batches or whole shops only?
Both. I handle everything from a single high-end saw to a full workshop liquidation. If it’s quality gear, I’ll make it easy.
The Process
What happens after I send my photos?
I’ll review them, give you an honest estimate, and if you’re ready, schedule a pickup. You’ll get a written agreement before anything leaves your garage.
Who picks up the tools?
I handle the pickup myself, not a random courier. I load everything carefully and leave you with a detailed receipt before I leave.
Do I need to box or label anything?
Nope. I handle all packaging and labeling. You just point me to where the tools are, and I’ll take it from there.
What if some tools don’t sell?
After 90 days, you can choose to renew the agreement, have your tools returned, or donate what’s left. Most items sell on eBay before then, but the choice is always yours.
How long does it take to sell everything?
It depends on the mix of items. Most tools sell within 30 to 90 days, and I’ll keep you updated along the way.
Trust & Safety
Is there a written agreement?
Absolutely. Every consignment runs through a clear, plain-English contract that protects both of us. Click here to preview the agreement before signing.
What if something gets lost or damaged?
I document every tool before it leaves your garage, so there’s a clear record of what’s in your inventory. If an item is ever lost or damaged in the mail, it’s fully insured. You’re covered from pickup to payout.
How do I know my tools won’t be swapped or shortchanged?
I photograph and log every item and match it to your personal inventory sheet. You’ll see exactly what sells and for how much.
Can I see updates or track what’s selling?
Yes. I send regular email updates and end-of-month summaries showing each item sold, its sale price, and your payout.
Payments & Fees
How do payouts work?
I send you a detailed statement for every sale showing the full breakdown — what the buyer paid, what eBay deducted for fees, tax, and shipping, and the final net earnings. Your share is always based on that net figure so everything stays transparent.
What percentage do I get?
You receive 70 percent of the net order earnings after eBay’s deductions for transaction fees, sales tax, and shipping. I keep 30 percent to cover cleaning, photography, listings, shipping costs, and customer service.
When do I get paid?
Payment happens after each sale, once the buyer’s 30-day return window has closed. This ensures that every transaction has cleared before payout. You’ll receive a detailed statement for each sold item showing exactly when and how your payment was calculated.
Do I pay anything upfront?
No upfront fees, ever. I only earn if your tools sell.
What if I change my mind later?
You can end the consignment at any time with written notice. Once I receive your request, I’ll return any unsold items within 30 days.
Selling vs. Doing It Myself
I’ve sold on Craigslist and Facebook before — why would I need you?
Selling tools on your own can turn into a grind. Scammers, no-shows, and endless messages drain your time and patience. Even when someone arrives, the talk usually turns to haggling over price in the driveway. Many retirees say the same thing: the work isn’t worth the wear.
Steve Bob’s Emporium removes every bit of that friction. I handle the pickup, photography, listings, buyer messages, and shipping from start to finish. Your tools reach a nationwide base of serious buyers on eBay, without strangers coming to your house. You keep 70% of each sale and never have to lift a finger.
When a tool leaves your shop, it keeps earning its keep. A young carpenter or mechanic puts that same drill or saw straight to work. Professional gear stays in circulation, free from tariffs and inflated prices, doing exactly what it was built to do.
What makes your service different from pawn shops or estate sales?
Pawn shops buy low and resell high. Estate sales move fast but undervalue good gear. I work transparently. You keep 70 percent, I handle the work, and your tools reach the next generation of tradesmen at fair prices. It’s about keeping quality tools in circulation and honoring the people who built their careers with them.
Can you help with estate or family collections?
Not yet, but that’s coming soon. My long-term goal is to help families and estates pass down quality tools to the next generation of tradesmen and women. Every well-made tool deserves a second life — not a dusty shelf or landfill.
What if I already tried selling them and had no luck?
Perfect. That means you’ve seen why I exist. I’ll relist everything professionally with professional photos, descriptions, and visibility on eBay.
What if I change my mind later?
You can, but it’s a grind. Between no-shows, lowballers, and scammers, most folks give up. I handle all that for you and reach a much larger audience of serious buyers.
Most Common Question
Who is Steve Bob?
I run this business as Steve Bob’s Emporium. My name is Steven Phenix, a longtime communications strategist who’s built a career around helping people trust what they read and who they’re dealing with, as reflected in my LinkedIn profile. After decades guiding organizations through complex situations, I now bring that same focus on honesty to resale. Most of my clients are retirees with shops full of quality tools and limited patience for scams, lowballing, and endless messages. I handle the work personally: pickup, photography, listings, buyer messages, shipping, and payment statements. Each consignment follows a clear agreement, steady communication, and full transparency from first call to final payout.
